Benefits of Using Electric Bikes for Hunting
If you want to get into the quieter wilderness that is prime hunting territory, sometimes it involves a long journey. This could take too long on foot, and it’s often not possible to reach it by car.
An e-bike lets you cover the distance with minimum effort, giving you ample time to pursue your favorite pastime.
They are also handy for whizzing around checking trail cameras or for animal tracks. If you get an injury, as long as you are able to mount the bike, using the throttle mode will increase the chances of you being able to it back to safety.
The bikes are usually more heavy-duty and designed to cope with rough trails.
They will often have rear racks and a higher than average maximum weight capacity. This allows you to transport any hunting or fishing gear you may have easily.
By being elevated on the bike, you will leave less of a scent trail, which means you won’t be as likely to scare off prey.
While a lot of these bikes have been specifically designed for hunters, they are also great for anyone that just enjoys the challenge of accessing the harder to reach off-road trails.
What Should You Look For When Buying an Electric Hunting Bike
You should consider motor capacity and size, first of all.
If you are going to be covering mountainous, steep terrain, then you want it to have a powerful one to help you up the ascents. It needs to cope with a potential heavy load with all your gear being transported, too.
It should also be quiet. You don’t want it to scare away the wildlife. For this reason, most good hunting bikes have a mid-drive electric motor.
If you range far, then you want the battery to be as efficient as possible too.
The frame needs to be robust enough to deal with the off-roading you will be doing. The best bikes for hunting are often fat bike in style. The wider, air-cushioned tires will give you a more comfortable off-road experience, and they will have more traction on rougher terrain too.
Like a standard electric mountain bike, they usually feature high-quality suspension to provide a smoother ride and to extend the lifespan of the bike.
Be Aware of the Electric Bike Classes
Don’t forget to check the Class of the off-road electric bike you are considering too. The laws vary depending on the country you are in. In Europe, e-bikes are generally not allowed to go above 15mph on their power-assist modes. In the United States, they can go up to 28mph. Within the country, however, some states don’t conform to the norm.
Check out the People For Bikes website, which is a handy resource for gaining a better understanding of these, sometimes nuanced, regulations.
In general, the Classes are broken down as follows within the United States:
Class 1 e-bikes
- Max speed of 20mph
- Pedal-assist motor only
- In some areas, the motor can be no bigger than 250w
- Generally no restrictions on where they can be used in the US
Class 2 e-bikes
- Max speed of 20mph
- Pedal-assist mode or thumb throttle function
- Motor usually no greater than 750w
Class 3 e-bikes
- Max speed 28mph (often referred to as speed pedelecs)
- Pedal-assist function only
- There are restrictions in certain States on where these can be used – always check
Reviews of the Best E-Bikes For Hunting and Off-Roading
We have selected six different electric powered hunting, off-road electric bikes to review. Each has its own specific advantages in terms of features, usability and performance.
QuietKat makes an exceptional series of off road bikes, and the Ranger is our favorite in this category.
While it doesn’t blow any one category out of the water, it is a fantastic all-around bike that, when combined with it’s low to mid-tier price point, just provides the most overall value, which is why we think it’s probably the best bike for most hunters.
Specs
Type of Bike | Throttle and pedal assist |
Motor | Bafang 750-watt Hub-Drive or 1000 watt |
Battery | 48v/11.6ah Panasonic |
Max Distance | 20 to 40 miles |
Brakes | Mechanical Disc – 180mm Rotor |
Charging Time | 6 hours |
Max Capacity | 325 lbs |
Bike Weight | 74 lbs |
Price | $2,699 |
What We Loved
This bike has the amazing Bafang 750W hub-drive motor, plus a reasonable 11.6 ah battery, which means it’ll take you wherever you want to go in terms of speed and power.
It’s a very high-quality build, with excellent components and engineering.
We love that QuietKat are serious about their off-road bikes, so much so that they’ve got trailers specifically built to attach to their bikes. That will allow you to haul a lot of gear into or out of the woods when you’re riding, making it a perfect hunting attachment.
The wheels are nice and fat, coming in at 4.5 inches, rather than the more common 4 inch fat tires, so you’re getting additional capabilities for trekking in the muck or other rough conditions.
Why it Might Not Work For You
As noted, it doesn’t really stand out in any one category.
It’s a hub-drive, so if you’re looking for mid-drive, you’ll need to spend a bit more on the Warrior or Apex model.
The battery is a little small compared with some others, so range can be limited if you’re using the throttle quite often.
Verdict
If you’re looking for the best all-around, bang for your buck, comfortable in any situation eBike, this is the best off-road choice.

Rambo Bikes have developed their range of electric bikes specifically with hunting and outdoor enthusiasts in mind.
They are garnering a reputation for having some of the best electric bikes in this market, and are a popular choice in the hunting community.
Specs
Type of Bike | Throttle and pedal assist |
Motor | Bafang 750W BBS02 High Torque |
Battery | LG 48V 10.4AH |
Max Speed | 19 mph |
Max Distance | 19 miles on throttle-only mode, up to 38 on pedal-assist |
Brakes | Logan HD-E500 Hydraulic |
Charging Time | 4 hours |
Max Capacity | 300 lbs |
Bike Weight | 63 lbs |
Price | $2,499 |
What We Loved
The powerful 750w mid-drive motor provides the strength you need to carry all your gear and still tackle rugged, steep ascents with relative ease. It is also quieter than a hub motor which helps in terms of a stealthy approach to a hide.
The hydraulic brakes are very responsive, providing excellent control and stopping distances. Don’t forget though that, if the bike is fully loaded, the stopping distances will be longer than when you go out unfettered.
The large four inch wide tires provide fantastic traction and make for a more comfortable riding experience on the rougher terrain. They also come with puncture protection, which is an added advantage.
Because of their specialist nature, Rambo provides a lot of additional practical accessories that can be purchased separately. The ones that help to transport gear or your catches can be really useful. They also offer a full one-year warranty.
Why it Might Not Work For You
While the wide tires provide some additional comfort, there is no suspension on this bike. That means you will not get quite as smooth a ride on rough terrain. It also means that the bike will take more of a pounding, and this could impact on its longevity.
Unlike a lot of other hunting bikes, it doesn’t come with the rack included, and this needs to be purchased separately, adding to your spend. There are no lights either, which often comes as standard on many e-bike models.
This model only comes in one frame size, so for extra tall riders or those that like to get a precise fit, it may not be the best choice.
Verdict
This bike is a versatile, all-rounder with a high specification.
It is a quiet, stealthy, robust, powerful mid-range electric hunting bike.
The extra-wide tires are a bonus, but the lack of suspension could put seriously rough off-roaders off.

Juiced bikes are well-established in the world of e-bikes, and they are known for producing higher-quality specifications at an affordable price point.
Specs
Type of Bike | Throttle and pedal assist |
Motor | 750 Watt Bafang Geared Hub Drive Motor |
Battery | 52 Volt Battery / 19.2 Ah |
Max Speed | 28 mph |
Max Distance | 40-100 miles |
Brakes | 180 mm Hydraulic Disc Brakes |
Charging Time | 5-7 hours |
Max Capacity | 275 lbs |
Bike Weight | 75.5 lbs |
Price | $2,499 |
What We Loved
This bike really does offer fantastic value for money. It is tied for the cheapest bike we reviewed, but it still has hydraulic brakes and a powerful motor and battery.
It can take you further than most of the other bikes reviewed with a maximum range of up to 100 miles. For long-distance riders, it could work well.
Despite not being a specific hunting bike it still can take up to 275lbs in weight, so will work for transporting lightweight gear, too, plus it comes with a rear rack.
The 4 inch wide tires and the suspension fork mean that you get a very comfortable ride, even over rougher terrain. The suspension will also mean that your frame will take less of a beating if you regularly push the bikes to its limit.
The bike comes in three frame sizes, which will help you to find the most comfortable fit.
Why it Might Not Work For You
If you are using this for stealthy hunting, the hub motor may prove frustrating as it is not as quiet as the mid-drive motor models we have reviewed. It is also more exposed than a mid-drive motor so, if you are moving through very overgrown terrain, it could be more susceptible to damage. This also means it’s not as much of a hill climber.
While it can still carry up to 275lbs, it does not have as big a capacity as some of the specific hunting bike models. If you have a lot of gear to carry, you would be better opting for something different.
This bike is fairly heavy, so it won’t be the best if you have to negotiate a lot of obstacles on the route resulting in you having to lift the bike frequently.
Verdict
A very affordable model that is not compromising on the specification. If you are looking for a bike that can cover a lot of ground and is very comfortable and responsive, then this could be worth considering.

Specs
Type of Bike | Throttle and pedal assist |
Motor | Bafang Ultra Mid-Drive Motor (750 W and 1000 W options) |
Battery | Extended Distance 48v in 14.5ah, 17.4, or 21 ah |
Max Distance | 40 miles |
Brakes | Hydraulic 203mm Disc brakes |
Max Capacity | 300 lbs |
Bike Weight | 70 lbs |
Price | $4,398 |
What We Loved
Potentially the best off-road bike on the market if you’ve got deep pockets.
The only reason we moved this one down is that it’s one of the most expensive bikes we reviewed, and it only gets more pricey if you choose the larger battery options.
However, it is very fast, has a fairly good max distance, is equipped with an excellent motor and battery combo, and is overall a great ride.
With quality Maxxis 26” X 4.0 tires, front suspension, rear rack, headlight, and walk assist, it’s absolutely decked out with features, and Bakcou is obsessed with making sure their bikes are top of the line so that they can take you anywhere, anytime.
If you’ve got the budget, we highly recommend this bike to get you into, and then out of, pretty much any situation.
We also love that while it’s suitable for anyone over 5’9″, they have a step-through model for people who are shorter than that, so you can still enjoy an amazing bike if you’re not that tall.
Why it Might Not Work For You
Again, it’s fairly expensive.
But that’s about it when it comes to drawbacks. We racked our brains here and there’s not a ton to complain about. Even in terms of weight and capacity it’s sort of middle of the pack.
Verdict
Fantastic option for pretty much anyone (especially since you can choose the step-through model), and is highly customizable with 2 power options and 3 battery choices.

That picture above is real, and it’s actually what Rungu produces.
The MDV series has a bunch of different options, which we’ll cover below.

Battery | 52V 15Ah (dual with top 2 tiers of the series) |
Max Speed | 22-25 mph |
Max Distance | Lower Series: 18-20 miles throttle or PAS off-road, up to 119 miles on pavement Higher Series: 33-39 miles throttle or PAS off-road, up to 370 miles on pavement |
Brakes | Hydraulic 180 mm disc brakes, Tektro Dorado Rear E-Brake |
Charging Time | ~5 hours |
Max Capacity | 350 lbs |
Bike Weight | 85 lbs |
Price | $3399 – $6559 |
What We Loved
Literally everything!
Well, ok, maybe not every single thing, but just look at it!
It’s insane! It’s a monster!
And did you see those stats in the Specs box above? 1120W mid-drive motor. 52V 15Ah battery…but you get dual batteries with the higher level models, which means you could get up to 370 miles of power on pavement. That’s more than some electric cars! Absolutely crazy.
It goes fast, it carries everything, it works on pretty much all terrain. For real, check this out:
It climbs 30-40% inclines depending on the model, which makes it the perfect eBike for going up massive hills with ease.
It comes with a hefty rack, a 1260 lumen headlight, nice fenders, and a multi-functional color dashboard that even charges your phone if you want it to.
Why it Might Not Work For You
If you’re not a little bit crazy, this isn’t the bike for you.
Kidding…but not really.
It is definitely the most expensive bike we reviewed, with the top of the line model coming in at nearly $7,000.
It’s also an absolute heifer, coming in at 85 lbs. Not easy to lug around.
This is made for the most serious off roaders, so is likely not suitable unless you spend every waking hour riding on gravel, soft sand, up hills, etc.
Verdict
Don’t you want one of these so badly? It’s so ridiculous and yet so functional. If you’ve got the budget, it’s hard for me to convince you not to buy this. You would be absolutely covered no matter what conditions you were riding in, so the versatility makes it an easy buy.

Surface 604, a Canadian manufacturer, have developed the Boar specifically for riding on rugged terrain.
Specs
Type of Bike | Class 1 (pedal-assist) |
Motor | Bafang 350 watt geared rear hub motor |
Battery | 36 volt, 13.3Ah Samsung lithium battery |
Max Speed | 20 mph |
Max Distance | 50 miles |
Brakes | TEKTRO hydraulic disc brakes |
Charging Time | 6 hours |
Max Capacity | 285 lbs |
Bike Weight | 57 lbs |
Price | $2,499 |
What We Loved
This is a comfortable and responsive ride. It has 4 inch wide fat tires that offer great traction. They absorb a lot of the bumps you experience on rough terrain well, making for a smoother ride.
It has the hydraulic brakes that are such a significant advantage if you are carrying extra gear for hunting.
It is very affordable so, if you are on a limited budget, this could be a good starter option. It is also available in two sizes, so there is a bit more choice for the taller or smaller rider.
Why it Might Not Work For You
The motor is the least powerful of all of those we have reviewed, and it is a hub motor rather than the quieter mid-drive option a lot of stealth hunters prefer.
You are not going to get as much range or acceleration as you would with some of the bigger motor models we have reviewed.
It only has pedal-assist power options. If you need extra help when you are laden down with gear then opting for a bike with throttle on demand would be a better choice.
The Surface 604 Boar doesn’t carry as much weight capacity as some of the other models we have reviewed. Not ideal if you head out with a lot of gear.
Verdict
If you are looking for an affordable first-time model to test out e-biking as part of your hunting experience, this could be a good choice.
If you are looking for something to take you further, higher and with heavier loads, you may want to select a different model.
