Electric Skateboards have been around since the early 2000s. By 2012, when we saw the launch of the now world-wide recognized Boosted Boards, the market was starting to open up with more manufacturers looking to get in on this increasingly popular concept.

Now there are a multitude of electric skateboard brands out there. Some of the big players are pushing the envelope in terms of the board specifications.

For experienced boarders and those looking for an adrenaline rush, speed is becoming a key area of focus.

Riding an electric skateboard at high speeds is not for the faint-hearted or inexperienced rider, though!

Local laws also have to be taken into consideration, reaching high speeds is something a lot of competitive riders want to achieve…And boy, can they do that.

In this article, we are going to look at 10 of the fastest electric skateboards currently on the market.

The first three are ones that could be argued as being “the fastest in the world”, but are not necessarily street legal. The following seven are ones that are widely available on the market, and ones that we have provided a mini review of to decide if they are right for you.

It goes without saying that riding at high speeds should only be done by confident and experienced adult riders. You should also wear protective gear and ride in areas that it is safe and appropriate to do so.

Fastest Electric Skateboards in the World

FASTEST IN THE WORLD

#1. NGV Nextboard (70mph)

Top Speed: 70 mph
Price: $2995

Nextboard

The NGV Nextboard is widely regarded as being the fastest electric skateboard on the planet. This custom electric longboard can go faster than some cars, at a jaw-droppingly crazy 70mph!

NGV has been able to achieve this capability by using a super-light carbon fiber frame, a powerful battery set and massive motor power. The Nextboard has a 2000-watt motor built into each of the models four wheels.

Although it hasn’t reached its predicted top speed of 70mph yet, in 2016 Mischo Erban went into the record books for reaching the fastest speed on an electric skateboard. He made it to 59.55 mph, right before he wiped out.

Top Speed: 48 mph
Price: $3848

Bioboards Thorium X4

A newly launched Swedish company have launched an e-skateboard capable of reaching 48mph.

The BioBoards Thorium X4 has a mindblowing total motor power of 14,400 watts, although it is a bit of a hulking brute weighing in at over 36lbs.

INSANELY FAST OFF-ROADER

#1. OutStorm Off-Road Electric Skateboard

Top Speed: 31 mph

OUTSTORM 31MPH Off Road Electric Skateboard

specs

Motor3300w dual brushless motor
Battery36v, 11Ah lithium-ion
Battery Charge Time3 hours
Maximum Speed31 mph
Max Distance19 miles
Max Capacity330 lbs
Skateboard Weight32 lbs

What We Loved

The Outstorm has a lot to love. For starters, despite an impressive specification, it offers surprisingly good value for money.

Of course, there is the speed. This monster is capable of reaching speeds up to 31mph via its 3300-watt motor power – more than any of the others we have reviewed.

You won’t get those speeds riding off-road but if you want to do some smooth surface road riding, it is exceptionally fast. Hitting 31mph would only be for the most serious of riders, well geared up and riding in a safe area. Tackling a bump at those speeds could easily through you right of the board!

Aside from the speed it will tackle hills with ease, has a great punch of acceleration and is suited to heavier riders too, with an unusually high maximum weight capacity of 330lbs.

The heavy-duty shock absorbers and the large pneumatic tires all help to provide a really comfortable riding experience.

If you want to feel extra stable on the board, you can also use their removable bindings. Not everyone will want to feel tied to the board, but if you are used to snowboarding, you may like this feature.

Why it Might Not Work For You

Of all the boards we have reviewed, this is the heaviest by far, at 32lbs. It is not one that can easily be carried around between rides. This means it will not manueaver in tight spaces as well as some of the more sleek models.

The Canadian Maple wood deck is very robust, but it doesn’t have as much flex as some of the other models we reviewed. This means it is not going to be easy to do nice sweeping carving if this is your preferred riding style.

Overall Verdict

If you love powerful off-roading, live in a hilly area, or you just want a seriously robust and high-performance board, the Outstorm could be for you. Okay, it is not cheap, but you do get a lot of bang for your buck. Just be prepared for its hulking proportions and hefty weight.

GOOD FOR HEAVIER RIDERS

#2. Raldey Carbon AT V.2

Top Speed: 28 mph

RALDEY GEN2 Electric Skateboard

specs

Motor2 x 1500w dual hub motors
Battery36V, 14Ah Lithium-Ion battery pack
Battery Charge Time5 hours
Maximum Speed28 mph
Max Distance19 miles
Max Capacity300 lbs
Skateboard Weight26 lbs

What We Loved

Like the Outstorm, this is another robust e-skateboard capable of handling some serious off-roading.

It has a very wide trunk, large tires and shock absorbers to help provide a comfortable ride. It also has impressive torque and acceleration. With its 3000-watt motor power, it is another one that will glide up hills no problem.

This is another model suited to heavier riders and can carry up to 300lbs in weight.

Why it Might Not Work For You

The wide carbon fiber frame is very robust, but it doesn’t offer much flex, meaning it won’t carve as well as some models.

It is a shame the tires are solid. While you don’t have to worry about a puncture, it would have offered an even more cushioned ride if they were air-filled.

Overall Verdict

This is more expensive than the Outstorm, but if you would prefer a carbon fiber frame over a wood deck, then it could be a good choice.

THE LIGHTEST OF THE BUNCH

#3. Maxfind Max-4 Electric Skateboard

Top Speed: 26 mph

maxfind max4 fast electric skateboard

specs

MotorHigh Torque Dual 750 Watts *2
Battery158.4 Wh Samsung Lithium Ion with custom BMS
Battery Charge Time2 hours
Maximum Speed26 mph
Max Distance15-45 miles (depending on battery)
Max Capacity220 lbs
Skateboard Weight16 lbs

What We Loved

This is another very affordable high-speed model, but it still has some good selling points.

For starters, this is much more portable than a lot of the other boards we have reviewed. Weighing in at just 16.5lbs it makes it much easier to carry between rides.

It has a lot of flex in the deck, and it is quite a wide board. Perfect for carving and getting into a comfortable riding position. It also has a classic, sleek design. You wouldn’t guess it could be classed as a high-speed budget model.

A lot of electric skateboards are not designed to be ridden in wet weather conditions.

But, the MaxFind has a unique IP65 rated water-resistant mainboard.

While it won’t cope with being submerged in deep puddles, it can cope with road splash with much more confidence than other boards. Just be aware of the risks of riding in wet weather though, in terms of control, especially if riding at high speeds (not to be recommended).

Why it Might Not Work For You

The Maxfind has a disappointing 13 mile maximum range capacity on the basic battery, and this, of course, will be much reduced when riding at top speeds. Not a good choice for riders that like to be out for much of the day, or who have a long commute, although each level of battery upgrade is just $100, so if that’s not out of reach, we highly recommend leveling up.

This is another model where the wheels are not as robust as those on more expensive models. Don’t expect them to last as well.

Overall Verdict

This board offers good value for money, and its light weight makes it very portable. You just need to be aware that is doesn’t offer quite the same power or high-class build quality as some of the more expensive models on the list.

SKATEBOLT Electric Skateboard Longboard with Remote Controller

specs

Motor500w powerful dual motors
Battery36V, 6600mAh Lithium Samsung battery
Battery Charge Time3 hours
Maximum Speed25 mph
Max Distance18.6 miles
Max Capacity280lbs
Skateboard Weight19.5lbs

What We Loved

Boards capable of high speeds are always going to be more expensive. But the Skatebolt electric skateboard is seriously affordable in comparison with most fast models, and it still has a lot of nice qualities.

The wide and flexible deck provides a very stable and comfortable riding position, and it carves really well.

It is lighter than some fast models too, coming in under 20lbs. Despite this, it can still manage loads up to 280lbs.

It is also nice that this has rear brake lights; not many models have this feature.

Why it Might Not Work For You

For most riders, the 1000-watt motor power will be plenty sufficient. For serious speed demons that want super responsive acceleration, this is slightly less responsive than some of the other models on our list.

The braking system is also a little more abrupt than some of the higher-spec models, and they take a bit of getting used to. There is also sometimes a bit of a lag in power after pressing the wireless remote control, and this can result in a slightly jerkier, less smooth ride.

The wheels are not as high quality as most of the other models on this list and will likely not last as long. Of course, there have to be some compromises when you consider the price.

Overall Verdict

You may not get the sophistication of some the likes of Evolve or Boosted with the Skatebolt, but when you consider the price it does offer good value for money. A good entry-level board for those that may want to master reaching high speeds.

Top Speed: 26 mph

Evolve Skateboards – Bamboo GTX Street Electric Skateboard

specs

Motor3000w dual brushless motors
Battery36 volt 10AH Lithium Ion
Battery Charge Time5 hours
Maximum Speed26 mph
Max Distance31 miles
Max Capacity220 lbs
Skateboard Weight19.4 lbs

What We Loved

Evolve are one of the most reputable high specification e-skateboard manufacturers out there. The Bamboo GTX Street is expensive, but you know you are getting a high-quality product.

What sets this model apart from some of the other speedy models we have reviewed is its range capacity. It is rare for an e-skateboard to be capable of reaching up to 31 miles in distance. If you are a fan of long rides, this board will appeal.

It also has a serious accelerative boost that can get you up to high speeds in no time. With four speed modes, it allows you to adjust to those crazy fast velocities gradually via the bluetooth control. The regenerative braking is also nice and responsive.

The bamboo deck on the GTX Street is robust but also one of the most flexible of those reviewed. For those that like to carve, it is a great choice.

Why it Might Not Work For You

If you are on a budget, the GTX Street will push you to your limits. It is expensive.

It is not as versatile as some boards either and is mainly suited to street riding.

Unlike some of the all-terrain models, the GTX Street is only capable of holding up to 220lbs in weight, so it is not suited to heavier riders.

Overall Verdict

If you don’t mind the hefty investment, and you want to stick to street riding, you are getting a reliable model that will go the distance.

Top Speed: 24 mph

Boosted Stealth Electric Skateboard

specs

Motor2,100w motor
Battery199wh rechargeable battery
Battery Charge Time1 hour 45 minutes
Maximum Speed24mph
Max Distance14 miles
Max Capacity250 lbs
Skateboard Weight17 lbs

What We Loved

Boosted, like Evolve, are one of the most well-established and reputable of the electric skateboard brands. The Stealth is a fast, powerful and well-built model, perfect for serious riders.

It has impressively responsive acceleration, tackles hills with ease and has a flexible but robust deck; perfect for carving and ensuring a comfortable ride. The wide, grippy tires also inspire confidence when traveling at high speeds and when tackling inclines.

It is nice that the board has 5 speed riding modes, more than most, as this allows you to gradually adjust to the crazy acceleration capabilities and fast top speeds.

Although not a hugely important feature, the Stealth also has a unique reverse mode which can be handy for maneuvering out of tight spaces.

The board is also impressively lightweight, given its motor power. At 17lbs, it is one of the lightest on our list. Plus it charges in just one hour and 45 minutes, perfect for a top up before hitting the roads again.

Why it Might Not Work For You

This is the most expensive of all the boards we reviewed. You could argue that you don’t need to spend as much to get a board that is just as functional as the Stealth.

This board can only take you to a maximum of 14 miles. Not a very impressive battery life, especially taking into account the price.

This is a board that is predominantly designed for street riding, limiting where it can be used.

Overall Verdict

For a serious commuting or street skateboarder looking for reliability, power and portability, the Stealth offers all this and more. It is just that it comes with a hefty price tag and don’t forget it is not good for long-distance skateboarding.

AFFORDABLE AND POWERFUL

#7. AZBO Electric Skateboard

Top Speed: 25 mph

Electric Skateboard Longboard with Remote Control by AZBO

specs

Motor2000w dual powerful motors
Battery36V & 6.6AH Lithium Battery
Battery Charge Time2 hours
Maximum Speed25 mph
Max Distance19 miles
Max Capacity268 lbs
Skateboard Weight18 lbs

What We Loved

If you are on a budget, but you are looking for a fast, powerful and lightweight model, then the AZBO could be a good choice.

It is very competitively priced, but you still get 2000-watt motor power and decent range capacity. It is also one of the lightest of the models we reviewed, making it appealing in terms of portability.

It charges up within 2 hours, and it has really high-quality grip tape on the deck that helps to provide a secure riding position.

Why it Might Not Work For You

This model is not as well built as some of the more expensive models. Given the price, this is only to be expected. But it does not seem as well built as some of the other more affordable models we reviewed, and this should be taken into account. You do get a one year warranty, though.

Despite having a 2,000-watt motor, it is not as punchy as some of the other models.

This is another model that is designed for street riding; it is not suited to off-roading.

Overall Verdict

Light, affordable and with decent power. The AZBO model is a good option for those on a limited budget, just be aware that it might not have the longevity of some of the more expensive models.
