If you have ever ridden an electric scooter, you will know the adrenaline-inducing feeling you get, even if you just try to take it up to 15 or 20mph. It can be knee-knocking!

Most electric scooters available to buy have a maximum top speed of 15 – 20 mph. Some go up to 25mph, some even slightly more.

Now try imagining taking it up to 55 or 60 mph! Crazy, right? Only the most serious speed riders would ever even consider trying this.

It is not for the faint-hearted, and it would be madness to take it out on the normal roads as a novice rider.

Some scooters can reach these speeds though, although they are usually bespoke models that have been built for competitive riders and speed vehicle enthusiasts and collectors.

In this article, we are going to take a look at a couple of the fastest electric scooters out there, and then another eight of the best electric scooters that are still crazy fast, but actually available to purchase through normal channels to take on the roads.

Quick Note on the Law and Safety

If you are riding any scooter, it is always recommended that you wear a helmet, and in some states, it is a legal requirement.

It is also a good idea to use additional protective gear and be aware of just how dangerous it is heading out on the road at high speeds. Only take it up to high speeds in carefully selected spaces where you are not going to be putting pedestrians or other drivers at risk. You also need to be a confident and careful rider.

In the United States, the laws can vary greatly depending on where you are riding. Some states don’t even have specific laws for electric scooters yet. This is largely because they have been unprepared for the sudden surge in popularity that electric scooters have had.

You should always double-check what legislation is in place where you are based before purchasing a higher speed scooter. You don’t want to be disappointed if you can’t use it where you had planned to.

The Two Fastest eScooters In The World

FASTEST ELECTRIC SCOOTER IN THE WORLD

#1. Rion Motors Special Edition Electric Scooter

Top Speed: 80 mph (Race Edition)
Price: $4,500

Rion Motors based in Los Angeles, specialize in producing incredibly high specification power electric scooters. With carbon frames, they are surprisingly lightweight, under 40lbs, and can go crazy fast.

This scooter can reach top speeds that can match the Renault Twizy electric car. The acceleration is ridiculous, with its 5000w motor, and it pulls away faster than some motorbikes.

The Special Edition model has been tested hitting speeds of close to 60mph which is pretty mind-blowing. They even have a one-off race edition that it is claimed could reach speeds of up to 80mph!

Although this is designed to be powerful, reliable and stable, you are not getting lots of extra accessories with the Rion. It doesn’t have lights, bells, fenders of even an LCD display like most other off-the-shelf models do. This is all about the power.

RUNNER UP

#2. Dualped Scorpion+ Electric ScooteR

Top Speed: 62.5 mph
Price: $5,000

dualped scorpion fastest escooter

The Dualped Scorpion Plus is often given the moniker of being the fastest electric scooter in the world too.

It is claimed to be able to reach speeds of a pants-wetting 62.5 mph. The big difference between this and the Rion is the weight. It comes in at a huge 104lbs. You are getting a seriously solid model, though.

Fastest Street-Legal Electric Scooter Reviews

FASTEST ELECTRIC SCOOTER

#1. Max Outstorm Ultra High-Speed

OUTSTORM 56MPH Ultra High Speed Electric Scooter for Adults Foldable

Specs

Motor3200w 60v Dual hub motor
Battery60V 26AH LG lithium battery
Charging Time6 hours
Max Speed56 mph
Max Distance52 miles
Max Capacity485 lbs
Scooter Weight101 lbs

What We Loved

If you have the experience and the space to hit high speeds, then the Outstorm could be for you. It can reach a hair-raising 56 mph.

If you are a heavier rider, it also has an incredibly generous 485lb maximum weight capacity. You also get a detachable seat post with this model.

The 3200w dual-motor powers you up those hills in no time, and it has a pretty comfortable ride thanks to the dual suspension shock absorption.

You even get to choose if you want off-road pneumatic tires that provide even more support or more durable solid road tires that you don’t have to worry about punctures. This scooter can handle a bit of off-roading.

Because of the powerful 60v battery, it will take you the distance too. It can reach up to 52 miles, depending on your riding style, weight and conditions. The dual charger means that, despite the battery size, it still reaches full charge quicker than a lot of the models we reviewed.

Why it Might Not Work For You

Shipped from outside of the United States, the customer support is by email and, if you have a problem, you could have to wait longer for replacement parts.

This scooter is a whopper. At over 100lbs, it is not easy to move around when you are not riding it.

Overall Verdict

Super fast, very powerful and provides a comfortable ride. The scooter is a brick though, and not easy to lift or transport.

GOOD ALL-ROUNDER

#2. NANROBOT D4+ Pro

NANROBOT D4+ PRO

Specs

MotorDual 1000w motors
BatteryLithium-Ion 52V-23AH
Charging Time8 hours
Max Speed40 mph
Max Distance40 miles
Max Capacity330 lbs
Scooter Weight70 lbs

What We Loved

This scooter and brand have a pretty solid reputation. The powerful motor provides very responsive acceleration, and you get up to high speeds in no time, especially when you engage both motors. Don’t forget, though, that using them both will drain the battery life faster.

There is great suspension and 10 inch wide fat tires, so you have a very smooth riding experience. It can even handle kerb transitions and small jumps without being too jarring.

There is lots of adjustability in the handlebars on the NANROBOT. It has a top slide adjustment and then also, for extra security, it also has three lock-in adjustment settings on the lower half of the pole, which is perfect for maintaining the preferred height level – even on rough terrain when it could shake loose on just the twist adjuster.

It is another model that has a generous maximum weight capacity, so will work for heavier riders too.

Why it Might Not Work For You

The mechanical disc brakes need some adjusting when you first get it. They tend to be set very tight, and this can mean they are a bit harsh if you try using them at high speeds.

There have been some reports of issues with the battery charger being faulty and some people have gotten frustrated with the hassle of having to return it for repair.

Overall Verdict

For a high specification, high-speed scooter, this offers good value for money. It provides a comfortable ride and powers you up hills. Just watch the brakes, and be aware of the possibility of having issues with the battery.

GOOD RANGE AND POWER

#3. Speedway 5

Speedway 5 Electric E Scooter Foldable

Specs

Motor3600w dual motor
Battery60V 23.4Ah 1385Wh Lithium-ion battery
Charging Time13 hours
Max Speed40 mph
Max Distance70 miles
Max Capacity265 lbs
Scooter Weight70 lbs

What We Loved

This is a versatile all-rounder. It is very fast, once the speed limiter has been deactivated, and has a large battery that allows you to get a maximum range, on a single charge, of up to 70 miles.

The massive 3600w motor powers you up even steep hills with surprising speed and acceleration.

The locking fold-down mechanism can take a bit of getting used to, but once you have it mastered, it is very secure and easy to lift.

The front and rear suspension shock absorbers provide a very comfortable riding experience, even when you are going at fast speeds. The 10-inch air-filled tires also provide some extra support.

Why it Might Not Work For You

Unlike a lot of other more sturdy high-speed scooters, this is not the best for heavier riders, with only a 265lb maximum weight capacity.

It takes a long time to charge with its huge 60v battery. Not great if you are in a rush to get right back out there.

If you want the high speeds, you have to remove the motor limiter, and this needs to be done with care to avoid any possible damage. There are, however, online tutorials that guide you through the process step by step.

It does have a high specification, but the cost of this scooter is a little eye-watering. It is usually one of the most expensive we have reviewed.

Overall Verdict

The scooters from the Minimotor brand have a good reputation and a high specification, and the Speedway 5 is no exception. A versatile all-rounder, although it doesn’t come cheap!

GOES THE DISTANCE

#4. Dualtron Thunder

Dualtron Thunder High Speed Electric E Scooter for Adults

Specs

Motor5400w dual motor
Battery60 volt – 35 Ah – 2,060Wh – LG 3500 cells
Charging Time20 hours
Max Speed40+ mph
Max Distance75 miles
Max Capacity265 lbs
Scooter Weight95 lbs

What We Loved

This scooter with its 60v battery can go the distance. If you love long-distance scooting, then you can’t go wrong with the Dualtron Thunder.

It also has the most powerful of all the motors. With a giant 5400w of power, it pulverises hills in a way that many other e-scooters never could and provides a lot of torque too. This is the perfect choice if you live somewhere like San Francisco and have to tackle steep gradients every day.

The 10 inch wide tires and dual suspension mean that, even at high speeds, you are getting a relatively smooth ride too.

The hydraulic braking system is very responsive, so much so that you have to watch you don’t press down too harshly at high speeds, and it gives you real confidence on stopping distances.

Why it Might Not Work For You

This is not a scooter that is kind on your bank balance. It is expensive, the most expensive of all those we reviewed in fact. It is hard to justify spending this much unless you really want to test out that massive motor and battery capacity.

Like the Speedway, you have to disconnect the speed limiting system that is pre-installed if you want to hit the super high speeds.

You do need to be very careful when doing this; otherwise, you could damage some of the integral electrics, and you would not be covered under warranty if this happened.

There are a lot of useful Youtube tutorials that can guide you through the process.

The scooter can lift a little at the front when you are tackling the high speeds, and the position of the upright handlebars doesn’t allow you to get into such a compressed and aerodynamic position when you are powering along. These are just minor things though that may not bother every rider.

Overall Verdict

Super powerful and very efficient, but it also has a huge price tag too, which is a little hard to justify.

LIGHT AND AFFORDABLE

#5. Mercane WideWheel

Mercane Wide Wheel Scooter

Specs

MotorDual 500w motor
BatteryLithium-ion 48V, 13.2Ah battery
Charging Time6 hours
Max Speed25 mph
Max Distance20 – 30 miles
Max Capacity220 lbs
Scooter Weight50 lbs

What We Loved

If you want speed, but not crazy amounts, then you might want to consider the Mercane.

The motor is not as powerful as some of the other models reviewed, but it still handles hills well, and it is a very stable scooter.

And let’s face it, unless you are a serious adrenaline junkie, being able to get up to speeds of 25mph on an electric scooter is enough to get the heart racing as it is!

It also looks a little slicker than some of the bulkier high-speed options. Even though it is still heavy when measured against a lot of high-speed scooters, it feels feather-light in comparison at 50lbs.

It is not a budget scooter, but for the specification, and compared to the other high-speed models we are reviewing it is a very affordable price too.

Why it Might Not Work For You

Although this scooter does have suspension, it is not as sophisticated as some of the other models reviewed. This combined with the fact that the tires are solid rubber rather than air-filled, and it means the ride is not quite as smooth. So, while you don’t have to worry about getting a puncture, make sure to take care on less smooth roads.

One thing we would have expected for a scooter in this price range would be a more interactive interface. It is pretty basic, and it can be hard to get an accurate idea of how much battery charge you have left.

Unfortunately, this scooter is not designed for heavier riders as it has a claimed maximum weight capacity of just 220lbs.

This is another model that has a speed limiter installed. You will need to remove this if you want it to go any faster. This should be done with care, to prevent any damage or problems with the electrics. There are instructions and also video guidance online that you can follow.

The range is not as impressive as some of the others reviewed at between just 20 and 30 miles.

Overall Verdict

Relatively lightweight and comparatively affordable, the Mercane Widewheel may not take you up to the dizzying speeds of some models, but it is a reliable all-rounder.

MOST LIGHTWEIGHT FAST ELECTRIC SCOOTER

#6. Boosted REV

Boosted REV

Specs

Motor1500 W dual-wheel drive and proprietary powertrain
BatteryPremium lithium cells enclosed in an impressive IPX7 waterproof casing
Charging Time3 hours
Max Speed24 mph
Max Distance22 miles
Max Capacity250 lbs
Scooter Weight46 lbs

What We Loved

The Boosted Rev has been designed for offering a safe riding experience. Made by a company that specializes in electric skateboards, their first foray into the world of e-scooters is very stable, it handles well. The brake system is also very responsive.

The standing deck has been positioned lower to the ground for better balance and stability.

It may not have as much motor power as some of the fast scooters we have reviewed, but it still has great torque and handles hills with relative ease.

The three-way braking system on the Rev is pretty unique too. Like most electric scooters it features mechanical and electric brakes, but it also has a manual stomp brake on the rear wheel too. They all work well and give you a little extra confidence when traveling at top speeds.

This is one of the easiest of the scooters to fold down. So easy that you can do it with just one hand, but you can still be confident it will securely stay locked down when it clicks into place.

Scooters built with speed in mind always tend to be heavier. The Boosted Rev is the lightest of all those we reviewed though, at just 46lbs.

Boosted have a great reputation and are well-established. If you select the Rev, you know you will be getting a product that is designed to last, and you will get great after-sales support.

Why it Might Not Work For You

This scooter doesn’t have any suspension, which is disappointing for a premium price model.

The frame is heavy-duty, and the wide tires do provide a bit of extra comfort, but it is still a shame, and you may find your teeth bang around in your head more on this model than any of the others we reviewed.

You will have to get used to getting into a riding position where you can use your legs to absorb the shocks a bit more if you plan on taking it on rougher surfaces.

If you want mega speed, you are not going to get it with the Boosted Rev. It is still fast, but with a top speed of just 24 mph, it is not going to break any records.

When folded down, the handlebars don’t fold in. The front post also sits at an angle rather than parallel to the deck. This means it isn’t as compact as some other models when in portable mode.

Overall Verdict

If you don’t mind that its top speed it just 24 mph, then you are going to get a powerful, stable and durable scooter with the Rev, it is just a shame that it doesn’t have any suspension, especially considering it is not cheap.

CHEAPEST FAST ESCOOTER

#7. Uberscoot 1600w

UberScoot 1600w 48v Electric Scooter

Specs

Motor1600w electric motor
BatteryFour 12V/12AH (48 volt system) Sealed Lead Acid (SLA)
Charging Time8 hours
Max Speed30 mph
Max Distance12 miles
Max Capacity265 lbs
Scooter Weight117 lbs

What We Loved

If you want to hit high speeds, but you don’t have the money to get one of the more high-end, extreme speed scooters, then you may want to consider the Uberscoot. It is a lot more affordable than all the other models that we have reviewed.

It still has a 1600w motor and decent acceleration, and it can reach up to 30mph top speed – absolutely fast enough, even for adrenaline junkies.

It could also be a good choice for heavier riders as it can accommodate over 400lbs in weight.

Why it Might Not Work For You

Apart from the price and the motor power, this scooter doesn’t have nearly as much going for it as the other models we have reviewed. This is one of those times when you really do get what you pay for.

For starters, it is disappointing that the Uberscoot relies on lead-based batteries rather than lithium-ion ones. Opting for these cheaper, lower-quality batteries means that its longevity will be much reduced, especially if it is being pushed up to high speeds regularly.

These lead-based batteries also only give a pretty pathetic maximum range of just 12 miles. Not good for long-distance riding and, if being used at high speeds, you can’t expect it to take you far at all.

The braking system is not as responsive as some of the higher specification models either. Make sure you test it out thoroughly before hitting high speeds.

This scooter is also a whopper. At 117lbs it is way heavier than any of the other models we have looked at and is so cumbersome. Een trying to lift it up a small number of stairs or into the car is going to be a challenge.

The general specification of this scooter is lower. The parts used are not as high quality as some of the other models, and they are known to have a few issues with the reliability of the build. With only a 90-day warranty, this is a worry.

Overall Verdict

If you are very limited on your budget but want to try out a high-speed scooter, then you could opt for the Uberscoot. If you are looking for value for money, you would be better off saving for a little longer and holding out for a higher specification model.

GOOD FOR HEAVIER RIDERS

#8. QIEWA QPOWER

QIEWA QPOWER Duble Motors Off Road Scooter

Specs

Motor3200 watt dual motor
Battery48Volts 26Ah lithium-ion battery
Charging Time15 hours
Max Speed50 mph
Max Distance60 miles
Max CapacityOver 400 lbs
Scooter Weight81.5 lbs

What We Loved

This is one of the fastest scooters we reviewed, capable of achieving speeds of up to a massive 50mph. It also has a generous range and, if you don’t always have the dual motors engaged, you could get up to a maximum of 60 miles on one charge.

The acceleration is immense, and it handles hills well. The scooter is stable and durable and could work well for heavier riders because of its massive 400lbs weight capacity.

The hydraulic brakes are pretty responsive and only need a light touch.

Why it Might Not Work For You

This scooter is one of the more expensive of those we reviewed, but the engineering is not as sophisticated as some of the others and may not be as reliable long term.

It does have a one year warranty, but if you need replacement parts, these have to be shipped from Asia. So, you could face a long delay in getting up and running again.

It is more complicated to assemble than some of the other models, and the instruction manual leaves a lot to be desired. You can’t just pick up the phone to customer support either as they are only available by email.

Overall Verdict

This is a fast and powerful scooter, but we think that some of the other models reviewed offer better value for money.
